AcidiRID: Managing Acidic Condensate in High-Efficiency Heating Systems

AcidiRID is designed to make condensate neutralization simple, from installation through annual maintenance. With engineered media, multiple treatment capacities, integrated overflow protection and a top-lid design for easy media replacement, AcidiRID provides installers with a practical solution for managing acidic condensate across today's high-efficiency heating systems.

As high-efficiency boilers, furnaces and water heaters continue to play an important role in modern heating systems, proper condensate management remains an important part of the installation.

These appliances can produce acidic condensate, making proper routing, treatment, and maintenance important considerations for installers. A condensate neutralizer provides a straightforward way to treat that condensate before it reaches the building's drainage system.

But choosing the right neutralizer involves more than simply connecting one to the condensate line. Treatment capacity, installation, media life, and future maintenance all play a role in selecting the right solution for the application.

Why Does High-Efficiency Heating Equipment Produce Condensate?

Understanding where condensate comes from makes it easier to understand why it needs to be managed.

In a conventional heating appliance, much of the heat in the combustion gases leaves through the vent system. High-efficiency equipment is designed to recover more of that heat.

As the combustion gases cool, water vapor can condense into liquid.

That liquid is the condensate.

High-efficiency boilers and water heaters can produce acidic condensate during normal operation, and high-efficiency heating systems more broadly require careful consideration of how that condensate is routed and discharged.

So, while condensate is a normal part of high-efficiency operation, where it goes and how it is treated matters.

What Is Acidic Condensate?

Acidic condensate is condensate with a low pH produced during the operation of high-efficiency heating equipment.

Because it can be acidic, untreated condensate may create concerns for drainage systems and building components. A condensate neutralizer uses a neutralizing media to raise the pH of the condensate before it is discharged.

The neutralizer sits in that path and treats the condensate before it reaches the building's drainage system.

How Does a Condensate Neutralizer Work?

A condensate neutralizer contains a neutralizing media that the acidic condensate passes through.

As the condensate moves through the media, the acidity is reduced before the treated condensate leaves the unit.

The amount of media required depends on the amount of condensate being produced.

A neutralizer isn't selected simply because it fits the condensate tubing. The treatment capacity needs to be appropriate for the heating equipment and the amount of condensate the system produces.

AcidiRID makes that selection easier by offering multiple treatment capacities for different applications.

AcidiRID: A Simple Approach to Condensate Neutralization

AcidiRID is engineered specifically to neutralize acidic condensate produced by high-efficiency heating appliances.

The system combines the neutralizing media and housing into a compact solution designed for straightforward installation and maintenance.

But one of the biggest advantages becomes apparent after the installation is complete.

The media can be replaced without disconnecting the unit.

AcidiRID's top-lid design provides direct access to the engineered media bag. When the media needs to be replaced, remove the used bag and insert the replacement.

Why Choose AcidiRID

A condensate neutralizer has one primary job: treating acidic condensate.

But contractors need more from a product than simply that basic function.

The neutralizer needs to be practical to install, easy to access, and straightforward to maintain.

Engineered Media

Each AcidiRID unit includes an engineered media bag designed for condensate treatment. Replacement media is available separately, so the entire neutralizer doesn't need to be replaced when the media reaches the end of its service life.

Top-Lid Access

The top-lid design gives direct access to the media bag, meaning the media can be replaced without disconnecting the unit.

Integrated Overflow Protection

AcidiRID incorporates integrated overflow protection into the product design.

Multiple Treatment Capacities

With treatment capacities ranging from 2.1 to 28 gallons per hour, AcidiRID can be selected for a wide range of high-efficiency heating applications.

Compact Design

AcidiRID uses a compact enclosure designed to make installation practical even where mechanical room space is limited.

Pumped Option

The AcidiRID Xp combines condensate neutralization with a waterproof, dust-resistant pump and check valve for installations requiring pumped condensate.

Condensate Neutralizer Media: When Should It Be Replaced?

The neutralizing media doesn't last indefinitely.

As the media treats condensate, its capacity is gradually used. Eventually, condensate can continue to flow through the unit without receiving the same level of treatment.

That's why media replacement is an important part of condensate neutralizer maintenance.

AcidiRID includes a 12-month time indicator to make the replacement interval easy to track. The media should be replaced every year, or sooner if testing shows that the treated effluent no longer meets applicable local requirements.

Installing a Condensate Neutralizer video

A good condensate neutralizer installation starts with the condensate path.

The appliance condensate drain connects to the neutralizer inlet, and the treated condensate exits through the outlet toward the building drain.

For gravity-fed installations, the piping needs sufficient incline to allow condensate to flow toward the drain. Condensate piping should also be protected from freezing temperatures.

Proper condensate management is an important part of installing and servicing high-efficiency heating equipment. Understanding how acidic condensate is produced, selecting the right treatment capacity and planning for ongoing media replacement all help ensure the system is set up for reliable operation.

AcidiRID makes that process straightforward. With purpose-designed condensate neutralization, multiple capacity options, engineered replaceable media and a contractor-friendly design that simplifies installation and service, AcidiRID provides a practical solution for high-efficiency boilers, furnaces and water heaters. From the initial installation to annual maintenance, AcidiRID is designed to make condensate management easier for the professionals who install and service these systems.
